This ‘Superfoods’ shake has innumerable properties and benefits. Let’s try it out!
These ancient superfoods which are called Chlorella & Spirulina are among the oldest forms of life on Earth and are also one of the most nutrient dense among all the known foods. In fact they are the most condensed forms of chlorophyll. However, edible seaweed has a distinctive flavor, which can be difficult to hide.
It doesn’t bother some people at all, while others are more sensitive to it. Because of the powerful detoxifying properties the smallest dose is better than nothing, so try to add some to your shakes or juices. In general, algae work best in very small quantities in smoothies with strong flavors such as chocolate, apple or lemon to help to balance this typical ‘sea’ taste. The most commonly available blue-green algae are chlorella and spirulina respectively.
Although they can be used interchangeably most of the time, chlorella is recommended over spirulina as it contains significantly more chlorophyll, but both are extremely beneficial. If you mind the taste so prefer spirulina over chlorella because it has a much lighter ‘aroma’. Both spirulina and chlorella are mostly composed of high quality proteins (amino acids), making the healing potential of these ingredients truly exceptional.
They offer a wide range of micronutrients and contain up to forty types of minerals (they are especially rich in iron) and incredible doses of vitamins A, K, D and B vitamins. With about 1-2% of their weight made up of pure chlorophyll, these superfoods are perhaps the most powerful purifying foods that can be found in nature and are known to be particularly helpful in the detoxification from heavy metals and toxins. Recent studies have linked regular algae consumption to a reduced risk of cancer, increased immune activity, more energy and effective detoxification. When it comes to the healthy properties of this special group of superfoods, the list is very long as you can see!
So try to get this smoothie every day as you intake of chlorella or spirulina!
WHAT YOU NEED
- 1 big ripe banana
- 1/2 cup peeled chopped green apple (or peeled pears)
- 1 cup light almond milk
- 1/2 cup baby spinach
- 1 Tbs hemp seeds
- 1 tsp spirulina or chlorella powder
- 1/2 lemon juice
WHAT TO DO
Using a blender process all the ingredients together until creamy and thick.
Make sure not to over process or the nutrients will get oxidized very quickly and the powerful detoxifying properties will start to decrease.
