Col di Lamo

Col di Lamo: the power of women

Giovanna Neri’s story is a fairytale come true. Not because of magic per se, but because of the love, persistence, and unwavering belief she dedicated to a project close to her heart. In the Col di Lamo winery she has created an enchanted world – her own world – and she aims to underscore this by welcoming her guests to the winery with a phrase borrowed from the Little Prince: Make your life a dream and dream a reality.

We are in Val d’Orcia, south of Siena, in Montalcino. It’s a medieval village, where time seems to have stopped in the 16th century. This town became famous thanks to the production of Brunello, a wine that dates back to 1888, when Ferruccio Bondi Santi decided to eliminate the Canaiolo and Colorino vines from wine production, used for the vinification of Chianti. Only Sangiovese remained, which the Col di Lamo company still cultivates organically. They have an ideology based on respect for nature. It can also be seen in the architecture of the winery: a perfect example of where eco-sustainability meets design.

“Montalcino is a medieval village, where time seems to have stopped in the 16th century.”

But who is behind Col di Lamo? Giovanna Neri, Gianna to her friends, is the soul of the company. The story began in her family, when her father Giovanni embarked on a wine-world adventure in 1971. Living in a wine-focused environment encouraged Gianna to cultivate an uncontained passion for the sector. When she bravely decided to take over part of the family vineyards and write her own story, Col di Lamo was born.

Today Gianna runs Col di Lamo with her daughter and main collaborator, Diletta. Through belief in each other and a solid bond, they’ve created their own reality. Col di Lamo’s Brunello di Montalcino is a real-life ode to sustainability: a harvest carried out by hand, followed by fermentation without selected yeasts, and refinement in barrels for at least two years

Col di Lamo is all about style. From the bottles, to the cellar, to the taste of the wine itself, Giovanna Neri’s style is front and center. Personality and elegance are prioritized in order to create something unique and special. Her selection of wines includes Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and Lamo IGT, a selection which reflects her strong sense of style and character. No detail is overlooked, and this can also be seen in the beauty of the labels, which have a feminine touch. Gianna’s relationship to her wines is like that of a mother to her children, and you can sense it with every sip.
