Second Stop: Grosjean, grands vins de montagne

Andrea Zigrossi and Gilbert Bages continue their RoadTrip#1, the sparkling journey of over 2000 km to discover the new Italian winemaking realities.

The second stop takes us to the lush Aosta Valley, in the village of Olignan, on the outskirts of the city of Aosta, at Grosjean Winery. Here for over fifty years the Grosjean family has been running the family estate, which over the years has become a point of reference for the entire region and for many mountain producers.

“The winery is a thriving and large reality – Andrea tells us – they produce over 140,000 bottles a year, with over fifteen different labels!”

Grosjean is undoubtedly a historic wine cellars in the Aosta Valley with an important wine production, but of absolute quality. More than half of the wines produced come from organic farming and the company is extremely attentive to the work in the vineyard and to the relationship with the surrounding natural environment.

This continuous comparison with the nature of the neighboring places finds full expression in the wines “With the Petite Arvine – a native Aosta Valley grape – it was love at first sight, an extremely full-bodied white wine with a rare aging capacity, quietly over five years ! Another gem of the winery is the Cornallin, a great regional pearl that we tasted in the special selection for the 50 of the company”.
